Looking for a New Place to Settle Down?

According to the latest official figures released by the U.S Census Bureau, as of July 2019, we had 17.4 million veterans living in the country. More than half of them were aged 65 and older. The majority of them served in the Vietnam War and Gulf War.

Although men make up most of the veteran population at 90.6%, the number of our women veterans is increasing and projected to go up by 18-19% by the year 2040.

After their service, most of these veterans went back home to be with their families. Some of them are now looking for a new place to call home.

If you’re one such veteran, looking for the best place to settle down may not be easy. The answer would largely depend on your priorities.

However, certain states are popular choices among veterans and have a large veteran population. Here are 3 of the top states with the most veterans:

  1. Texas

The Lone Star State, Texas has many military installations and residents who have jobs in the military or civilian organizations affiliated with the military. It served as the home of 1,453,450 veterans as of July 2019. VA Health care centers, veteran-job opportunities, and base exchanges are all over the state, and retirement facilities for veterans are also aplenty, mostly due to the Hazelwood Act, a legislation that mandates the state to offer150 hours of free higher education benefits to veterans who list Texas as their home of record or those who entered the military within the state.

  1. South Dakota

Home to Mount Rushmore and at least 57,550 veterans, South Dakota is generally at the top of the list when it comes to the best places to live for veterans. For every 100,000 veterans living in South Dakota, the state has 21 VA health facilities available to cater to them. Military pensions aren’t taxed, and the state also ranks 10th overall in the number of VA Benefits Admin facilities in the country.

  1. California

Home to 1,574,531 veterans as of July 2019, California has at least 8 homes for former military personnel, both for residential or long-term care. A wide range of veteran-focused services is also provided by the state, with most of them funded by the federal government. It should be noted that more than half of California’s veteran population is aging or above 60 years old, so most of the state’s facilities and services are focused on the disabled or elderly vets.

Help Our Vets Live the Decent Lives They Deserve

Many of our veterans are finding the transition to civilian life harder than they had expected. With our government’s assistance programs unable to accommodate all our vets, some of them fall through the cracks and fail to obtain any form of support. Former service members who are unable to get government support include those who are suffering from unemployment, homelessness, service-related disabilities, and illnesses, including mental health disorders.

Do you have a car that you’re not using anymore, or perhaps an old vehicle that spends way more time in the shop than it does on the road? That’s all you need to extend meaningful assistance to the struggling veterans in your community. All you have to do is to turn over that vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations. We’ll use it to improve the living conditions of our nation’s suffering heroes.

We’ll put your vehicle up for auction, with the proceeds going to our veteran-focused nonprofit partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations use the funding that we provide them to deliver quality health care, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, educational scholarships, psychotherapy services, and many other benefits to deserving veterans.

You will also greatly benefit from your vehicle donation since it will entitle you to receive the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season. You’ll also be entitled to secure our free professional towing service at your convenience. We can collect your vehicle wherever you had it parked or stored anywhere in the country since our donation program covers all 50 states.

However, those material perks may pale in comparison to the greatest reward you’ll get: the priceless feeling of joy and satisfaction for doing something that can help transform the lives of the neglected and suffering heroes in your community.
