Former U.S. Servicewomen Benefit from Exclusive Training Program

In addition to the normal Transition Assistance Program (TAP) offered by the U.S. government for the benefit of all veterans, there’s a voluntary training program offered exclusively to female service members who are transitioning out of the military. It’s called Women’s Health Transition Training (WHTT).

WHTT began its pilot program in 2018. It was launched following reports that retired female service members were not using their VA benefits as much as the men did. The main response given by surveyed women veterans was that they didn’t have any idea what services or programs were available for them at the VA.

The pilot program was a huge success. The women who took part applied for their benefits at a much faster and higher rate than before, especially for specific women’s health needs. The WHTT program complements TAP, helping provide health benefits for female veterans.

What WHTT Seeks to Achieve

There are misconceptions about VA health care, benefits enrollment, and eligibility requirements that are specific to women’s needs. The VA’s WHTT program aims to clear this out and help female veterans in their transition, enabling them to make full use of their VA benefits. The training program has five phases, covering the shift from active duty to retirement. The program introduces participants to VA support services, including women-specific health assistance, providers, and other essential services.

The program pursues the following objectives:

  • Educate participants about what women-specific health care services are available such as maternity care, cancer screenings, and mental health care services;
  • Clarify the process and eligibility requirements for receiving health care benefits;
  • Provide women-specific networks, programs, and resources for female veterans to tap into;
  • Inform participants of VA facilities near their areas and POC’s to contact in case they need additional assistance.

You Can Become a Hero to Our Suffering Vets

While men and women deserve equal treatment, women have certain psychological and physical needs that men do not have. That’s why specific transition support and assistance programs are available for former U.S. servicewomen.

Even then, government-funded services and programs can only provide limited assistance to a limited number of veterans, both male and female. That’s why some veterans end up on our city streets, homeless and begging for alms. Many of them can’t find gainful employment while others struggle with service-connected disabilities and illnesses, including mental health disorders.

You can be a hero to these disadvantaged veterans. If you have an old vehicle that you no longer need, you can use this to help them. All you have to do is to donate that vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations.

We’ll put your vehicle up for auction, with the proceeds going to our veteran-focused nonprofit partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations use the funding that we provide them to deliver free quality health care, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, educational scholarships, psychotherapy services, and many other benefits to deserving veterans.
