Soldiers’ Angels Family Support Program: Bringing Joy to Military and Veteran Families

The families of our servicemen and women suffer just as much agony and separation pain as that felt by their deployed loved ones. They have no inkling if they’ll ever see their military spouses, fathers, and mothers alive again. Families of veterans also share the difficulties faced by their loved ones who are struggling to cope with such issues as service-connected disabilities, mental disorders, and unemployment among others.

The U.S. government is doing all it can to provide assistance to active-duty military personnel, veterans, as well as their families. Charitable and humanitarian organizations are also contributing their share in reaching out to our military and veteran community. Among those actively participating in this effort is Soldiers’ Angels, one of the nonprofit charitable organizations in partnership with Veteran Car Donations.

Soldiers’ Angels has five teams dedicated to providing aid and comfort specifically to military and veteran families. Each team is unique in the assistance they offer, as well as how the team is structured – all teams are completely virtual – meaning volunteers from around the world can contribute to supporting families of service members and veterans! In addition to the five Family Support Teams below, Soldiers’ Angels also offers an array of other teams designed to support Deployed Service Members, Veterans, and Wounded Heroes. You can learn more about all of the Soldiers’ Angels Programs and Teams here.

What Soldiers’ Angels Family Support Teams Do

Below is a brief summary of each of the five teams that make up the Soldiers’ Angels Family Support Program.

Soldiers’ Angels Adopt-A-Family Team

The Soldiers’ Angels Adopt-A-Family Team is an annual program to help military and veteran families through the holiday season. Military and veteran families usually live on a tight budget, which can cause a lot of stress during the holidays. Oftentimes, military and veteran families are not able to have holiday celebrations because of financial reasons.

The Soldiers’ Angels Adopt-A-Family Team helps those families through the holiday season by providing them with grocery gift cards for a holiday meal, as well as gifts for each child. It’s a great way for American’s to show their gratitude for all that these military families have sacrificed!

If you are an individual interested in adopting a family for the holidays, you would need to become a member of the team, or “Team Angel” first—then you can join the Adopt-A-Family Team and adopt 1 or 2 families during the holidays. If you are a business or group interested in adopting 3 or more families, there is a special business application and you do not have to join the team.

Soldiers’ Angels Baby Brigade

Soldiers’ Angels Baby Brigade Team is a fun-filled group that provides virtual baby showers for expectant military families. It can be difficult when deployments overlap with the birth of a child, so this team focuses on easing the financial and emotional stress of being a family separated by deployment.

This team focuses on supporting expectant spouses of deployed service members, spouses of deployed service members who have given birth in the past year, and expectant active duty service members. “Angel” volunteers from around the world shower these new mom’s with items for the coming baby. The Soldiers’ Angels Sewing and Crafting Team also participates in Baby Brigade virtual showers by using their skills to create handmade gifts for the babies, such as booties and baby blankets.

Soldiers’ Angels Sewing and Crafting Team

The Soldiers’ Angels’ Sewing and Crafting Team offers lovingly crafted handmade items for veterans, wounded heroes, deployed military servicemen and women, and their families. Whether you are a casual hobbyist or an expert seamstress, there is always an opportunity for you in this team if you want to put your talent to serve a worthy cause.

Members of the Soldiers’ Angels Sewing and Crafting Team use their skills and talents to sew, knit, crochet, as well as quilt their gifts. The completed handmade items are provided to deployed service members registered to receive support through Soldiers’ Angels as well as veteran patients in VA Hospitals across the country. In addition, the Sewing and Crafting Team works on special projects to benefit other Soldiers’ Angels Family Support Teams—such as creating baby items for the Baby Brigade Team.

Soldiers’ Angels Living Legends Team

The Soldiers’ Angels Living Legends Team works by providing comfort to the families of those left behind by our fallen heroes. They are assured that their loved ones would always be honored for their bravery and sacrifices. The team sends out personalized sympathy cards to the families during their grieving stage as well as each year on the anniversary of their passing.

Soldiers’ Angels Women of Valor Team

When military heroes return from the battlefield, they often require full-time care. Many may have endured physically debilitating injuries while in combat, but many more suffer the invisible trauma of Post-Traumatic Stress. When they return home with these injuries they become 100% reliant on their caregivers. The Soldiers’ Angels Women of Valor Team was created to support those caregivers— specifically female caregivers, be it a wife, girlfriend, mother or other female relative.

These incredible women are often thrust into a position that requires them to be full-time caregivers on top of an already full plate of other roles and responsibilities, such as being a mom, head of household, and the only working family member. “Angel” volunteers on this team provide support, encouragement, and inspiration to these women to help them through their struggles and celebrate their successes. They send care packages, cards, and letters to the women to help them through their journeys, which often come with an incredible sense of isolation. Oftentimes, the communication with their Angel may be the only communication these women have with someone outside of their wounded hero or children.

How You Can Help Our Nation’s Heroes and their Families

Soldiers’ Angels is just one the charity partners of Veteran Car Donations, and the benefits that military and veteran families receive as cited above are just some of the assistance that our beneficiaries receive.

We invite you to join us in our charitable mission by donating your old and unwanted vehicles to us. We auction off all donated vehicles and use the proceeds to support our IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit partners. In return for your vehicle donation, we’ll send you a 100% tax-deductible receipt that will entitle you to claim the maximum tax deduction based on the selling price of your donated vehicle at auction. This can significantly lower your tax bill when you file your itemized federal income tax return in the next tax-filing season.
