Technology as a Tool to Treat Mental Health Disorders

PTSD or post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental health condition caused by experiencing a traumatic event. Many veterans developed PTSD after getting exposed to life-threatening combat situations. According to a study made in 2014, at least 87% of U.S. veterans reported that they had been exposed to potentially traumatic events. A 2017 study involving 5,826 U.S. veterans also showed that 12.9% of them were diagnosed with PTSD, which was about twice the rate when compared to the 6.8% risk rate for the general population.

Fortunately, advancements in modern technology have allowed us more options than before to support veterans with PTSD. These include the use of applications that veterans can conveniently access anywhere through their mobile phones. We’ve listed 5 of the top applications we’ve found below

  1. ACT Coach

ACT Coach was made for veterans and service members who are in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) consultations with a therapist. The app contains helpful information, tools, and tracking logs that can help them keep track of everything they’re doing during their sessions.

  1. Breathe2Relax

This is a stress management application that contains useful information about stress, its effect on our body, and helpful exercises to help users learn the stress management skill called diaphragmatic breathing. Breathing exercises have been found to decrease the body’s “fight-or-flight” (stress) response, and help with mood stabilization, anger control, and anxiety management. The application provides users guides on how to keep their stress response to levels they can control, including tips to control anger and anxiety.

  1. CBT-I Coach

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia or CBT-I is for people suffering from insomnia or unhealthy sleeping habits, often a by-product of PTSD. CBT-I Coach is an application that provides a structured program for users to help them navigate their way through their symptoms, help alleviate their insomnia, and keep track of their progress.

  1. LifeArmor

This is a comprehensive learning and self-management application designed for veterans with mental health issues such as PTSD. The app provides different categories for users to browse through, each containing useful information on anything related to stress or mental health.

  1. Mindfulness Coach

This is a stress control application that has proven to be beneficial for veterans with PTSD. Mindfulness Coach helps users improve their emotional balance, reduce stress, and increase their self-awareness levels.

Your Unwanted Car Can Be a Source of Hope for Veterans in Need

PTSD and other mental health disorders are just some of the terrible challenges that many of our troops face when they leave the service. Some of them are also burdened with service-connected disabilities and illnesses. This is one of the reasons why many of them can’t find decent jobs. For lack of a source of income to support themselves, some fall into the pits of poverty, forcing them out of their homes to live as homeless people begging for alms on city streets.

How about sparing a few minutes of your time to help out the struggling veterans in your community? You can do this by simply contacting us at Veteran Car Donations and donating to us any vehicle you no longer need. When you do this, the suffering veterans in your local area will get an opportunity to turn their lives around.

We serve as the vehicle donation platform of IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are committed to serving our nation’s heroes who are currently going through various crises. We sell vehicles donated to us and use the proceeds to help fund the programs and services of these nonprofits. They provide deserving veterans with free quality health care, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, educational scholarships, psychotherapy services, and many other benefits.

As a donor, you get to enjoy valuable perks, one of which is a top tax deduction. You also don’t need to pay for our pickup and towing service. We offer them for free to our donors in all parts of the United States.

Above all, you’ll have the ultimate pleasure and satisfaction of doing something extraordinary that can help uplift the lives of our nation’s heroes.

We take almost all types of vehicles, regardless of their age or condition. Apart from standard cars, we accept RVs, motorcycles, mopeds, boats, jet skis, golf carts, snowmobiles, company trucks, and many others. They don’t even have to be in great shape.

For more information on our vehicle donation program, visit our FAQs page. Should you have any inquiries or concerns, you may call us at 877-594-5822 or write to us here.
