How to Tell What’s Causing the Vibration

So, you find your car shaking when you come to a halt or every time you drive at low speed. You don’t get it. You feel the vibrating sensation coming from your engine, yet you don’t know where it’s coming from and how you can stop it.

This should be enough to tell you that something’s not right and that you need to take that vehicle to your mechanic ASAP.

Car shaking when idling is a common issue for many drivers, and Veteran Car Donations is here to put the spotlight on it. Here are five possible reasons why your car is experiencing a rough idle:

  1. Worn-out or misaligned belts

A worn-out or misaligned timing belt or serpentine belt can lead to engine vibrations. This can cause other parts of your engine to malfunction, resulting in unusual shaking and noises.

Have your mechanic inspect all of your engine belts to ensure they’re properly installed and working as they should be.

  1. Disconnected, broken, or loose hoses

Vacuum hoses underneath the hood of your car come in different types, all of which connect to different engine parts. Any time you encounter engine issues, a loose or disconnected hose may be the culprit.

In the case of an engine that’s shaking violently, a vacuum hose leak could be to blame. Aside from rough idling, it can also cause problems such as chugging, misfiring, stalling, losing power, or shutting down entirely. Depending on the severity of the problem, you may need to get your hose replaced.

  1. Weak or faulty mounts

Your motor and transmission mounts are there to keep your engine attached to your vehicle. As soon as they break, you’ll notice a vibration at idle. As mounts aren’t built to last long. they can crack or wear down over time.

A surefire way to tell whether your mounts are the ones causing your car to shake while idling is by putting your car into neutral. If it starts to shake less, then you should get them checked.

  1. Misfiring or dirty spark plugs

Vibrations can also be due to worn-out or dirty spark plugs. Such plugs are no longer able to fire properly and create the spark to ignite your engine’s fuel, causing the vibrations.

While simply getting them cleaned may fix the problem, it’s best to have them replaced. Spark plugs are inexpensive. Just be sure to use those that are recommended by the car manufacturer.

  1. Defective fuel intake

Your car’s fuel intake system can get clogged up, especially if you’ve been using your vehicle for many years now. A clogged fuel intake system will deliver uneven amounts of fuel to your engine. Once your engine stops getting a continuous and even supply of gas, you’ll experience rough idling.

Donate an Unwanted Vehicle for a Worthy Cause

If shaking is just one of the nerve-racking problems you’re experiencing with your car, if these issues keep cropping up even if you’ve already spent a huge chunk of money trying to fix them, just let it go! Imagine how much more you’re going to spend for more repairs plus maintenance if you continue to use it.

What if we told you that you can give that vehicle a new and worthy purpose? When you donate it to us at Veteran Car Donations, we’ll turn it into a tool for uplifting the lives of the struggling veterans in your community.

Once we have your vehicle, we’ll auction it off and use the proceeds to support the life-enhancement programs of our veteran-focused charity partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations cater to our veterans who are homeless and impoverished, those who are unable to find decent jobs, and those who are suffering from disabilities and serious illnesses, including mental health issues.

Thanks to your generous contribution, our charity partners will be able to provide more deserving veterans with housing and financial assistance, employment and livelihood opportunities, family support, free quality health care and medical treatment, psychotherapy services, scholarships, and other services meant to improve their living conditions.

Your donation will entitle you to claim the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season. We’ll mail you the 100% tax-deductible sales tax receipt of your car soon after its sale.
