Common Household Items You Can Use to Remove Auto Blemishes

No matter how careful of a driver you are, you just can’t avoid getting dents and dings on your car. Nobody can account for tight maneuvers, freewheeling shopping carts, other drivers barging into your car, or a kid accidentally bumping it with their bicycle. The scenarios are endless, and yes, they can be frustrating.

The good news is that you can fix these car blemishes on your own — as long as they’re minor. You don’t have to seek out an auto body shop and spend hundreds of dollars to have your car dents fixed. All you need are common household items plus this guide, and you’re all set!

With that in mind, Veteran Car Donations shares six DIY solutions for fixing minor car dents:

  1. Use a plunger.

A plunger isn’t used just for unclogging a toilet. It also comes in handy if you notice a small dent on your vehicle’s exterior. Simply pour water on both the plunger and the affected area. Push the plunger up and down repeatedly until the dent pops out.

  1. Use a hairdryer.

If the dent is located on a plastic part, your hairdryer can save the day. Heat and cold go hand in hand when it comes to removing dents on plastic surfaces.

With the hairdryer turned to its highest setting, point it at the dent so the plastic will expand slightly. Then, spray the damaged spot immediately with compressed air to make it contract. This leaves it with no choice but to take its original shape and pop out.

  1. Use boiling water.

Don’t have a hairdryer at home? Well, don’t fret because boiling water can also do the work for you. It’s also ideal for eliminating dents on plastic bumpers and any plastic parts of your automobile.

Pour a pot of boiling water over the dented area so it becomes malleable. As soon as proper malleability is achieved, pop the dent out with your hand or a rubber mallet.

  1. Use dry ice.

Dry ice is another DIY solution for fixing minor car dents. Using protective gloves, hold the dry ice and just rub it on the dent. A few minutes later, you’ll see the dent cooling, contracting, and popping out.

  1. Use a vacuum cleaner and a bucket.

Create a small hole in the bottom of the bucket, then cover the dent with the upper part of the bucket. Next, place the vacuum cleaner tube over the hole, turn the vacuum cleaner on, and wait until the dent pops out.

  1. Use toothpaste.

Aside from protecting your teeth, toothpaste can also protect your car’s surface from superficial scratches, specifically those that haven’t gone past the clear coat of your auto’s paint.

Clean the area with water and a car washing soap. Once it’s dry, put a dab of toothpaste on the scratched part and rub gently using a damp cloth. Keep rubbing until you no longer see any visible marks.

While home remedies are great for surface scratches and minor dents, you should take your car to a professional if the damage is too big to fix by yourself.

Looking to Dispose of Your Problematic Auto?

If you’ve been wasting a lot of money paying for the expensive repairs on your decade-old car and it’s still experiencing issues, you must have realized by now that you could’ve saved that hard-earned money if you got rid of that vehicle sooner.

Don’t feel bad though. You can still repurpose that auto by using it to transform the lives of the needy and hurting veterans in your community. Just turn it over to us at Veteran Car Donations.

We’ll have your vehicle fixed as best as possible before putting it up for auction. We’ll then use the proceeds to help fund the life improvement programs for veterans of our charity partners. These IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are dedicated to helping former U.S. service members who are homeless and impoverished, those who are unable to find decent employment, and those suffering from disabilities and serious illnesses, including mental disorders.

Our charity partners use the funding they get from us to provide deserving veterans with housing and financial assistance, employment and livelihood opportunities, family support, free quality health care and medical treatment, psychotherapy services, scholarships, and other services meant to improve their living conditions.

To return the favor, our team will pick up and tow your vehicle for free anywhere in the country. We’ll also promptly send you the 100% tax-deductible sales receipt of your car via mail soon after its sale. You can use the receipt to claim the highest possible tax deduction in the next tax season.

However, the best reward you’ll get for making a charitable contribution to us is the joy of knowing that you’re giving back to our nation’s brave men and women who risked their lives to ensure our security and protect our liberties.

We accept nearly all types of vehicles, including those that are no longer in good condition.
