Here Are the Resources You Need if You’re Taking Care of a Vet

While caring for a veteran, particularly one with a mental health disorder, can be fulfilling, it can get pretty exhausting at times. Whether you’re a spouse, close friend, or caregiver of a former service member, seeking professional support is necessary.

The VA offers a range of mental health resources for people who are taking care of veterans with psychological issues. Besides providing you with online resources, the organization can also link you to caregiver support coordinators at your local VA medical center. Additionally, you can connect with fellow caregivers through their caregiver peer support mentoring program.

Another option is to talk directly with a licensed psychologist or social worker through the VA’s Coaching Into Care program. They’ll be providing you information regarding mental health and certain VA services, as well as tips on starting a conversation about treatment with your veteran. The program is free of charge. It’s available Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.

Here are other mental health resources to help you:

  • Make the Connection.

This is a one-stop resource where vets and their loved ones can learn more about mental health and watch video testimonials from fellow vets who were able to overcome their issues through treatment.

This program supports retired military personnel who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as their families, by providing them with free mental health services.

This is a free life-coaching program that teaches problem-solving skills for vets and their families.

Also a free service, this program was created by the Defense Department to help service members and their families plan for deployment. It also provides resources for employment, counseling, financial management, and education.

This program is open to former and active military members and their families who need resources for a Family Program Team, Transition Assistance Advisor, and other support.

Transform Lives with a Simple Act of Charity

Want to know how it feels like to be a hero to our nation’s heroes? Just donate an unneeded vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations! You’ll be amazed to discover how big of an impact you can make with your donation.

We will sell your car at an auction, after which all proceeds are passed on to nonprofits that serve disadvantaged vets across the United States. They will then use the funds to support the veteran beneficiaries from your city through a range of life-enriching programs. Thanks to your generous contribution, these former servicemen and servicewomen will receive education scholarships, mentoring, job training, counseling, quality health care, housing assistance, family support, and many other benefits.

Since our charity partners are IRS-certified 501(c)3 organizations, you will be entitled to a maximum tax deduction. Expect a tax-deductible sales receipt in your mailbox within 30 days after the sale of your vehicle.

We offer free towing in all 50 states. Just tell us when and where you want your vehicle hauled away, and one of our drivers will be there to pick up your donation on schedule. It’s totally fine with us if you can’t be around at that time. Just give us a heads up.
