Know What Documents You Need to Keep

Owning a vehicle involves a lot of paperwork. It’s always a good idea to keep your car documents organized so that when the time comes that you need them, you know right away where to find them.

Every time you’re getting your car serviced by a mechanic, see to it to keep that record, even if it’s something as minor as a tire rotation. In case they don’t issue you a receipt because no work was done, ask them to sign a note saying so.

• Purchase receipts

Whenever you buy something for your car, like a replacement part or an accessory, don’t forget to keep the receipt.

• Previous owner’s paperwork

If it’s a secondhand car you own, retain whatever documents the previous owner had given you.

You can also keep a consolidated log of all work performed on your car. Print a table that chronicles the date, work done, mechanic’s name, and mileage. If you prefer digitizing your service record logs, you can use apps such as Your Garage Online or eCarLog.
