- Turn on the defroster when warming up your car.
Activate your defroster every time you warm up your vehicle. See to it that you set the temperature to high on the auto system, or full hot on the manual system. In case you’re using a remote starter on cold mornings, set the defroster the night before so you can easily remove fog from your windshield.
- Use an ammonia-based window cleaner.
An ammonia-based window cleaner can quickly remove fog buildup on your windshield. Use vertical or horizontal strokes to apply the window cleaner. Apply it to your windshield’s interior regularly.
- Apply shaving cream, too.
You may also apply shaving cream on your windshield’s interior. This will create a protective film on the inside that can stop fogging. Use two clean towels — one for wiping and another for removing the shaving cream.
- Switch to “fresh air” mode.
Check if your car’s heater or AC system is set in fresh air mode. Having it on recirculate mode will enable it to reuse moist or humid air, which increases the possibility of windshield fog.
- Have a specialist examine your HVAC system.
A defective HVAC system is one of the possible reasons why you’re having trouble preventing your car from fogging up. If you see fog on your windshield when you activate your car’s defroster, consult an HVAC specialist to fix the issue.
