Follow These 6 Tips!

As winter approaches, many of us are now busy getting our cars ready for the colder season. This includes cleaning off all the salt and other road debris that can damage our vehicles. Unfortunately, many of us only focus on the exterior of our vehicles that we can see. We overlook the undercarriage, which is the area that’s especially susceptible to salt and rust damage.

Veteran Car Donations is here to show you how to protect your car’s undercarriage from road salt and corrosion. The following are the things you need to do:

  1. Wash your vehicle regularly.

Make sure to give your vehicle a regular wash, especially after it’s been exposed to snow and salt on the roads. Make it a point to include the undercarriage in the washing of your vehicle. This will help prevent any build-up of debris or dirt in that area, which could cause rust and corrosion over time.

  1. Undercoat your vehicle.

Before winter begins, undercoat the undercarriage of your vehicle. Spraying an application of a wax or rubber-based composite onto the area will create a rust-proof layer between the undercarriage of your vehicle and the water, ice, and salt on the road.

  1. Avoid puddles.

As much as possible, stay away from large puddles that may contain saltwater as it can have a significant effect on the undercarriage of your car. The best way to avoid this is to take a different route if you can or drive slower on roads with lots of puddles.

  1. Check the drains.

All cars feature a drainage system covering various sections of the vehicle. The drains keep water from accumulating, thereby helping prevent rusting. Sometimes, the drains get blocked with dirt or tree leaves, which disrupts their normal function. Check the drains located on the floor, fenders, and other parts of the vehicle and make sure they are clean.

  1. Keep a close eye on your undercarriage.

Pay attention to the condition of your vehicle’s undercarriage throughout the winter season. Doing so will allow you to spot early signs of rusting. You can then take action to fix this issue quickly before it becomes a major concern.

  1. Park in covered areas.

As much as possible, park your car in a covered area such as a garage or carport. This will protect the undercarriage from salt and other winter elements that can cause damage over time.

There you have it! These tips can keep your vehicle’s undercarriage safe from road salt damage this winter season. By following them, you’ll be able to extend the life of your car and keep it looking its best throughout the cold months ahead. Good luck!

Give Your Badly Damaged Car a New and Worthy Purpose
