Spend Less on Gas with These 5 Proven Tips

Although gas prices continue to drop after hitting an all-time high in June, peaking at $5.02 a gallon at one point, consumers still have to do the best they can to save money amid the continuing inflation.

To help you save money at the gas pump, Veteran Car Donations shares these proven strategies:

  1. Take advantage of gas apps.

Thanks to mobile apps such as GasBuddy and Gas Guru, you don’t have to spend a lot on gas anymore. These apps will help you find gas stations that sell the lowest-priced gas in your area. You can filter results by fuel grade, sort by price and distance, and obtain GPS-guided directions to the station you pick.

GasBuddy also allows you to check stations for amenities like car washes, ATMs, and restaurants. On the other hand, Gas Guru lets you save the location of your favorite stations so you’ll know where to stop on your way back.

  1. Check your tire pressure.

You can improve your gas mileage by up to 3% by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. On the other hand, under-inflated tires can lower your gas mileage by about 0.2% for every 1 psi drop in the average pressure of all tires. So, make sure that your tires are inflated to the pressure recommended by your car manufacturer as shown on the sticker inside the driver’s door. Properly inflated tires last longer and allow you to drive more safely.

  1. Get a gas credit card.

If you go to the same fuel station to get gas, consider applying for its credit card program. The rebates and discounts you can get from using the card can net you huge savings. Just be sure that you pay off your bill in full every month so you don’t have to pay the penalty interest for delayed payments.

  1. Don’t use premium gas unless your car requires it.

A study showed that American drivers waste more than $2.1 billion every year by using the more expensive premium-grade gasoline even in cars that don’t need it. When you see the “premium” name at the gas station, don’t assume that the fuel is better for your vehicle. Premium gasoline means higher octane fuel and does not necessarily mean “higher quality.” If your car requires only regular-grade fuel, you won’t benefit from using premium gasoline.

  1. Reduce the number of your car trips.

If you’re going somewhere near, just ditch the car and go by foot (or bicycle, if you have one) or take public transport instead. It’s also a good idea to bundle errands and appointments so you don’t need to make multiple trips and use up more fuel in the process.

The Best Thing You Can Do with Your Gas Guzzler

If your car’s poor gas mileage has been causing you financial trouble and you’re now thinking of getting rid of it without going through the hassles of reselling, your best option is to simply donate that vehicle.

You need to be careful though in choosing the recipient of your donation. For your complete satisfaction, choose a charity that will tow your vehicle away quickly and at no cost to you while giving you all the rewards you deserve for your charitable contribution.

When you hand over your unwanted vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations, you’ll be glad you did.
