This August, Build More Strength and Power in Your Swing!

All avid golfers know that the golf swing involves a complex full-body motion that places force through the ligaments, muscles, and bones. For this reason, you’ll be setting yourself up for trouble if you jump straight into swinging a club without preparing your body for it. Thankfully, you can do a few exercises that can help improve your physical performance no matter what level you play at.

These Exercises Will Improve Your Golf Game

If you think that taking some practice swings or carrying your golf back from the trunk of your vehicle to the cart is all you need to do to get extra distance off the tee, think again. In celebration of National Golf Month this August, Veteran Car Donations has pulled together the following best exercises that can help you improve your swing:

  1. Hand Walks

Hand walks are one of the best ways to minimize your risk of a shoulder injury. Additionally, this exercise helps prevent “golfer’s elbow,” a form of tendonitis that triggers pain and swelling in the tendons that connect the elbow to the forearm.

To start doing a hand walk, you’ll need to stand up and bend forward at the waist while placing your hands on the ground. Once you’re on all fours, assume the basic pushup position by slowly walking your hands out.

While you’re at it, keep your knees straight as you walk your toes toward your hands. Walk your hands back out as soon as you feel a stretch. You’ll want to do a total of 10 reps.

  1. Lunges with Rotation

This single-leg exercise targets your hamstrings, quads, and the king of the swing — your glutes, the large muscles in your buttocks. Moreover, this exercise’s rotational component significantly improves your core strength and power by creating mobility in your thoracic spine.

Start by stepping one foot out into a lunge position while bending both knees. Next, rotate your arms and torso over the lead leg before rotating back to neutral and standing up. Repeat the process with the opposite leg.

  1. Goblet Squat

Did you know that lower body strength is associated with club head speed? By doing goblet squats, you’ll strengthen your quads and glutes and increase your ability to swing your club faster.

To do a goblet squat, start by sitting your hips back and bending your knees as you lower yourself into a squat. While you’re at it, keep your back straight and your core tight before squeezing your glutes as you return to a standing position.

Reach Out to Those Who Honorably Served Our Nation

As you tee off amid a breathtaking sunrise this National Golf Month of August, spare a thought for the brave men and women of our military who put their lives on the line in the service of our nation.

While some of these veterans have successfully transitioned from military to civilian life, others haven’t. Those former service members who fail to experience a smooth transition include those who are burdened by service-connected disabilities, chronic unemployment, homelessness, and serious illnesses, including mental health disorders.

If you’re looking for a way to support the disadvantaged veterans in your community, consider donating any type of vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations. Our team will sell your car through an auction and hand over the proceeds to our reputable, veteran-focused charity partners. These IRS-approved 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations are committed to giving needy veterans access to quality healthcare, psychotherapy services, financial aid, family support, housing assistance, educational scholarships, job opportunities, and many other benefits aimed at improving their living conditions.

Your charitable contribution will entitle you to a free towing service, which is available to our donors in all 50 states. In addition, you’ll have the privilege of enjoying the highest possible tax deduction in the next tax season.

Above all, you’ll experience the joy of knowing that you’re doing something that can transform the lives of the suffering veterans residing in your area.

We’ll gladly take nearly all types of vehicles, including those that need repairs. Head over to our FAQs page to learn more about us and our quick and easy donation process.
