Stay Safe and Avoid Costly Repairs!

A transmission unit converts engine power to motion. Without it, your wheel won’t move an inch. Your car may shift to another gear without warning when your transmission slips. Besides creating a serious safety risk, this problem could lead to costly repairs. For these reasons, a slipping automatic transmission is enough to make any driver break out into a cold sweat.

Wondering Why Your Automatic Transmission Is Slipping?

A transmission slip doesn’t have to mean disaster for your car. If you’re lucky, the whole mechanism isn’t shot, and the cause of your problem won’t require an expensive fix. However, you may need to check your fluid levels and transmission bands.

To give you a better understanding of this issue, Veteran Car Donations has compiled the following most common causes of automatic transmission slipping:

  1. Low transmission fluid levels

Your transmission unit is a hydraulic system that uses pressure from the transmission fluid to allow you to shift gears. Low transmission fluid levels will make it difficult for your gears to shift. It may even cause your vehicle to overheat.

It’s best to check your transmission fluid from time to time. If it’s low, you’ll want to refill it and find out why it’s low. It’s also worth noting that newer transmission fluid is a translucent dark red color. Over time, its color will become darker through use. If your transmission fluid is at the right level but appears discolored, it’s likely burnt out. You’ll need to drain and replace it with fresh fluid to avoid issues.

  1. Broken or worn-out transmission bands

A transmission unit has metal bands that connect the gears in the transmission. Over time, these bands can wear out or break, especially if you run your engine high. Since worn-out or broken transmission bands can cause trouble in engaging the gear connected to the band, you’ll want to inspect your bands to find out if you need to replace them.

  1. Faulty system components

You may need to replace specific parts if fluid leaks or worn-out bands are not the cause of your transmission issue. It’s best to take your vehicle to a trusted mechanic. They may advise you to replace your clutch, gears, torque converter, or solenoids.

Thinking of Spending a Fortune on Your Car’s Repair? Here’s a Better Option

If your car’s automatic transmission issues require you to shell out a helluva amount for a full hard repair, it may not be worth it. You’d be better off disposing of that vehicle by donating it to us at Veteran Car Donations. We’ll use your donation to improve the living conditions of the struggling disadvantaged veterans in your local area.

We serve as the online vehicle donation platform of IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that are fully committed to serving our nation’s veterans. We sell vehicles donated to us and use the proceeds to help fund the vital life-enhancement programs of our charity partners.

These charities cater to former U.S. service members who have become homeless and impoverished, those who are unable to find decent jobs to support themselves and their families, and those with service-connected disabilities and serious illnesses, including mental health conditions.

They use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with housing and financial assistance, employment and livelihood opportunities, family support, free quality health care and medical treatment, psychotherapy services, and many other services meant to uplift their lives.

As a donor, you get to enjoy valuable perks, one of which is getting entitled to receive the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season. You also don’t need to pay for our pickup and towing service. We offer them for free to our donors in all parts of the United States.

Above all, you’ll have the ultimate pleasure and satisfaction of doing something extraordinary that can help our nation’s suffering heroes get back on their feet and live the decent and fulfilling lives they deserve.

We take almost all types of vehicles. Apart from standard cars, we accept RVs, motorcycles, mopeds, boats, jet skis, golf carts, snowmobiles, company trucks, and many others. They don’t even have to be in good condition.
