Your Guide to the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts

Whether you’re currently serving in the military or you’re a military spouse, it’s always a good idea to be in the know of the different benefit programs offered to members of the Armed Forces and their families. One of them is the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) Scholarship Program.

What Is the MyCAA Scholarship Program?

Unofficially known as Spouse Tuition Assistance, the MyCAA is a workforce development program that aims to support eligible military spouses by providing them with up to $4,000 of tuition assistance.

It helps military spouses pursue licenses, certifications, or associate degrees necessary to gain employment in high-demand career fields. Those who are eligible may use their MyCAA funds at any institution approved by the program.

Who Are Eligible for MyCAA?

Among those who qualify for the scholarship program are spouses of active-duty, National Guard, and reserve service members in pay grades E1 to E5, W1 to W2, and O1 to O2. They must have completed high school and be able to request tuition assistance while their spouse is on qualifying Title 10 military orders.

Those who are ineligible are:

  • Spouses who are married but legally separated, or under a court order in any state or U.S. territory, from a member of the armed forces on Title 10 orders
  • Spouses whose sponsor is in a warning order or alert, post-deployment, transition, or demobilization status

In case the service member gets promoted to a rank that makes their spouse ineligible, they will still qualify, provided that they have an approved training plan in place before the promotion takes effect.

What Does MyCAA Pay For?

The MyCAA Scholarship Program pays tuition costs for education and training courses, examination fees that lead to an associate’s degree, as well as the costs for obtaining a license and certification at any accredited college or university in the United States.  However, it will only cover the costs for courses or examinations listed in your approved Education and Training Plan (ETP).

Don’t expect the MyCAA program to pay for the following:

  • Associate degree programs in general studies, liberal arts, or unspecified interdisciplinary studies
  • Reimbursements of any kind
  • Books, supplies, uniforms, equipment, and electronic devices
  • Transportation, lodging, medical services, and childcare
  • Supplemental activities, events, and entertainment
  • Academic credit by examination tests (CLEP)
  • Course extensions (except for approved hardship waivers)
  • High school completion programs
  • Private licenses
  • Ungraded (audited) or repeat courses

How to Apply

Eligible spouses who wish to join the program will first need to set up a free MyCAA Account on the program’s website. They’ll be allowed to create their Career and Training Plans. It’s their responsibility to apply to their chosen school or program and enroll in each course included in their approved plan.

Here’s How to Reach Out to the Struggling Vets in Your Area

While many service members and their families are fortunate enough to receive incredible perks from programs like the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts Scholarship, thousands of retired military members are struggling to survive. They include the veterans in your community who are homeless and impoverished, those who can’t find decent jobs, those with service-connected disabilities, and those who are suffering from serious illnesses, including mental health disorders.

The good news is, there’s still hope for them, and you can play a part in improving their living conditions. All you have to do is donate an unwanted vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations.

Our team will put your vehicle up for auction, with the proceeds going to our veteran and military nonprofit partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations use the funding we give them to provide deserving veterans with housing and financial assistance, employment and livelihood opportunities, family support, free quality health care and medical treatment, psychotherapy services, scholarships, and many other benefits.

Donating to Veteran Car Donations will enable you to receive outstanding rewards, such as getting entitled to claim the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season and getting a professional pickup and towing service from us anywhere in the country at no cost to you.

More valuable than these material rewards, you’ll get to experience the priceless joy and satisfaction of doing something that will help uplift the lives of our nation’s heroes — those men and women who put their lives on the line so we can live in peace and freedom.

We take almost all types of vehicles regardless of how old or worn-out they are. Aside from standard cars, we also accept RVs, motorcycles, scooters, boats, jet skis, golf carts, snowmobiles, ATVs, company trucks, and many others.
