3 Barriers that Prevent Them from Getting Treatment

One of the toughest challenges that veterans have to deal with is their mental health. Because of the traumatic events they experienced during their time in the service, many of them developed mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety. These issues hinder their ability to transition to civilian life.

While the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense have taken proactive steps to ensure that affected veterans get proper mental health treatment, thousands have dropped out from the VA mental health programs and are now dealing with their condition on their own. Here are some of the reasons why.

  1. Issues with health care providers

According to RAND research, issues with the health care providers pose some of the barriers that prevent veterans from getting the proper mental health care they need. Some health care providers have to turn down veterans seeking treatment because of limitations in their facilities. Some providers are also not trained extensively, preventing veterans from getting the quality mental health care they need. There are also issues with insurance coverage and care financing, which make it more difficult for veterans to avail themselves of this service.

  1. Appointment difficulties

Making an appointment with a health care provider is oftentimes difficult for veterans seeking mental health treatment. Transport difficulties exacerbate this problem. When the provider’s location is inaccessible, many vets opt not to continue with their treatments anymore because of their difficulties in meeting their appointments.

  1. Lack of confidence

Some veterans lack confidence that the treatment prescribed for them will improve their condition. Others are hesitant to take medication because they are afraid of possible side effects that it might cause. Some resist treatment because they fear the stigma attached to patients getting mental health treatment.

Help Take Care of Vets Facing Mental Health Issues and Other Woes

The peace that allows us to sleep soundly at night has come at the cost of the mental health and wellness of many of our veterans. Many of them are suffering from mental health issues as a result of the traumatic events they experienced when they were still in the military that saw them taking part in combat missions overseas.

Aside from that, many veterans face other grave problems such as homelessness, chronic unemployment, disabilities, and other illnesses.

Now is your chance to pay them back for all of their sacrifices. You can easily do that by donating a vehicle you no longer need to us at Veteran Car Donations. We will use your donation to improve the lives of the suffering veterans in your area.

We’ll put your vehicle up for auction, with the proceeds going to our veteran-focused nonprofit partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations use the funding that we give them to provide their veteran beneficiaries with free health care, psychotherapy services, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, educational scholarships, and many other benefits.

You will also reap rewards from your charitable contribution. You’ll get to benefit from our free towing service. You’ll also enjoy our quick and convenient donation process where you don’t have to do any paperwork.

On top of that, you’ll have the privilege of receiving the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season.

Above all, you’ll have the ultimate pleasure and satisfaction of doing something extraordinary that can help uplift the lives of our nation’s heroes.
