Why Do Veterans Still Struggle After Returning Home?
You might think that when a soldier returns home from the service, they receive a hero’s welcome and smoothly transition into civilian life. You may picture them finding steady work, securing housing, and rebuilding their future after everything they’ve been through. In reality, this often isn’t the case. Many former soldiers face serious challenges adjusting to life outside the military, and for some, that transition can be tougher than the experiences they faced overseas.
Many soldiers return home with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other mental health challenges, and some struggle to afford food and shelter. Others live with severe service-connected disabilities and face ongoing depression and a sense of helplessness. It’s a shame that these veterans, who made it through war, struggle at home.
