Help Struggling Veterans in Your City with a Charitable Act

Veterans have made tremendous sacrifices in service to our country. Many spent years away from their families facing difficult conditions and accepting risks most people will never experience. After returning home, some veterans encounter new challenges as they work to build stable and successful civilian lives.

In Richmond and throughout Contra Costa County, many former service members continue to face obstacles related to employment, housing, healthcare and financial stability. These challenges can make the transition from military life more difficult than many people realize. Fortunately, you can help make a difference through a simple act of generosity.

When you donate a vehicle through Veteran Car Donations, your contribution helps generate funding for programs that support veterans and their families. Your unwanted vehicle can become a valuable resource that helps provide services and assistance to those who served.

Best of all, the process is easy, designed to save you time and effort.

What Happens After You Donate Your Vehicle?

The donation process is designed to be quick and straightforward. It begins when you call 877-594-5822 or complete a short online donation form. You will be asked to provide basic information about your vehicle, including its condition and location.

After your information is reviewed, a convenient pickup time will be arranged. Towing is provided at no cost to you, and most vehicles can be collected directly from your home or another location of your choice. Many vehicles qualify for donation, including some that are no longer running.

Once your vehicle is picked up, it is sold on your behalf. The proceeds help support programs that assist veterans and their families. After the sale is complete, you will receive the appropriate tax documentation for your records.

Why Does Your Vehicle Donation Matter?

Your donation helps support trusted nonprofits that provide meaningful assistance to veterans who may be facing challenges after military service. These programs can offer resources that help veterans achieve greater stability and long-term success.

Examples of services supported through vehicle donations may include:

What Questions Do Donors Ask Most Often?

Read some of our FAQs below to find out more about donating:

How Does Pickup Work?

Free towing is arranged at a time that fits your schedule. Once pickup is complete, you receive documentation showing that the vehicle has been transferred.

How Does the Tax Deduction Work?

Tax deductions are generally based on the vehicle’s sale price or fair market value, depending on applicable tax regulations and individual circumstances.

What If I Don’t Have My Title?

Many title-related situations can be resolved. If your title is missing, contact us to learn about available options.

How Should You Prepare Before Pickup Day?

Getting ready for pickup is simple. Remove all personal belongings from the vehicle and gather any available ownership documents, including the title if you have it.

You do not need to worry about transportation arrangements because towing is provided free of charge. In many situations, you may not even need to be present during pickup if arrangements have been made in advance.

Once the vehicle has been collected and the required documentation has been issued, you are no longer responsible for it. That means you can move forward knowing your donation is already helping support an important cause.

Beyond Donating, How Else Can You Support Veterans in Your Community?

If you would like to make an even greater impact, consider reaching out to the Contra Costa County Veterans Service Office, the Richmond Housing Authority and the Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa’s HUD-VASH Program.

These organizations work closely with veterans and families who need assistance with housing and support services. Because they maintain direct connections with local veterans, they can often help identify volunteer opportunities where your time and effort can make a meaningful difference.
