Tax Deduction

You may qualify for a top tax deduction.

Do you have a vehicle you don’t need? Instead of trying to sell it yourself, consider donating it through Veteran Car Donations. It’s a simple way to turn an unused car, truck, SUV, or motorcycle into support for veterans and their families.

The proceeds from each donated vehicle help fund veteran-focused nonprofits in Wichita and beyond. These programs often provide housing assistance, healthcare access, job resources, mental health support, and other valuable services.

You won’t need to worry about finding buyers or negotiating deals. We handle the process from start to finish. That means less work for you and more resources for those who have served our country.

Whether your vehicle runs well or has been sitting for years, it may still qualify for donation. If you’re ready to clear out some space and support a worthwhile cause, we’re here to help.

How the Donation Process Works

Donating a vehicle is a lot easier than you might expect. The process starts with a quick phone call or online form submission.

We’ll ask for some basic information about you and your vehicle. This includes details like the make, model, year, and condition. Once we review the information, we’ll let you know if the vehicle qualifies.

After that, we’ll arrange a free pickup at a time that works for you. There’s no need to move the vehicle yourself or pay towing fees.

When the tow truck arrives, the driver will take the car and hand you a document that allows you to cancel your auto insurance and registration.

Once we receive the car, we’ll sell it at auction and send the proceeds to charities devoted to veterans. Within 30 days of the sale, you’ll receive a receipt showing the sale price. You’ll need this during tax season, when you claim your deduction.

Why Your Vehicle Donation Matters

Veterans across the U.S. face extreme challenges after leaving military service. Many of them struggle to find a job and stable housing. Others may not be able to find the healthcare, counseling, job training, or financial guidance they need to thrive.

Vehicle donations help charitable programs provide guidance and support to these veterans. The funds generated from each car donation allow these organizations to reach more people.

The Perks You Can Expect as a Donor

Donating doesn’t just help veterans; it helps you, too. When you become a donor, you can skip the headache of selling or getting rid of a car. You won’t have to create online listings or meet with strangers. And you’ll no longer have to pay for insurance, registration, or ongoing maintenance costs.

Free pickup adds another level of convenience. Once your vehicle is scheduled for pickup, there’s very little left for you to do.

Many donors also appreciate the potential tax benefits. If you qualify, your donation may result in a tax deduction. We recommend speaking with a tax professional about your specific situation.

Many people assume that their vehicle is too old or damaged to donate. That’s often not the case. We often accept vehicles with mechanical problems, cosmetic damage, or high mileage.

Still, not every vehicle will qualify. The easiest way to determine your car’s eligibility is to contact us directly. We’ll review your vehicle information and tell you whether the automobile qualifies.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Pickup Work?

First, we’ll call and schedule a time that works for you. On towing day, one of our towing partners will come to collect your vehicle. Our team will explain any requirements before your appointment.

How Does the Tax Deduction Work?

Tax deductions are generally based on IRS guidelines. Depending on your situation, the deduction may be based on the vehicle’s sale price or fair market value.

After the vehicle is sold, we’ll send the appropriate documentation for your records. A tax professional can help determine how the deduction applies to your return.

What If I Don’t Have My Title?

A missing title doesn’t automatically disqualify you. In most situations, our team can help you request a replacement title. Requirements vary by state and vehicle type. Contact our team, and we’ll discuss your options.

If you still have questions, go to our FAQ page for more information.

What to Do Before We Pick Up Your Vehicle

Preparing your vehicle for pickup won’t take much time.

Start by removing all of your belongings from the car. Be sure to check the glove box, center console, trunk, storage compartments, and under the seats.

If you have the title available, place it somewhere that’s easy to access. Other paperwork may also be helpful, but requirements vary.

Once you’re all scheduled for pickup, our towing partner will take it from there. You don’t have to arrange a tow truck or move the vehicle yourself. And you don’t even have to be present for the appointment.

After your vehicle is picked up, you’re no longer responsible for it.

Beyond Donating, How Else Can I Help My Community?

There are many ways to support people in need throughout the Wichita area.

The City of Wichita Housing & Community Services Department works to connect individuals and families with stable housing and community resources. Through initiatives such as Homes for Heroes, the department collaborates with local organizations, landlords, and service providers to help veterans find stable housing. Reaching out to this organization is a great way to learn about volunteer opportunities or donation drives that support residents.

The Sedgwick County Veterans Treatment Court also relies on community involvement. The program helps veterans work toward recovery through treatment, counseling, and structured support. Volunteer mentors play an important role by offering guidance and encouragement throughout the process. Contact the court to learn how to get involved.
