How Does Veteran Car Donations Help Veterans?

To address the problems that veterans face in Texas, Veteran Car Donations has partnered with several certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations to provide much-needed services to veterans and their families. Learn more about our nonprofit partners and how they support veterans.

We raise funds by auctioning off donated vehicles and sending the proceeds to our partner non-profits. They use the funds to run their charity programs and address the needs of our nation’s heroes. Through Veteran Car Donations, veterans receive help with:

  • Job training and mentoring programs
  • Building mortgage-free, specially-adapted housing for those who were severely injured in combat
  • Mental health services for them and/or their families
  • Education scholarships and tutoring support
  • Raising public awareness on the difficult issues that our returning troops and veterans face

What Do Donors Receive When They Donate?

When you donate a vehicle to veterans through our donation program, you’ll receive several benefits.

Depending on how much your vehicle sells for, you may receive a tax deduction when you file your taxes next year. Also, after donating your car, you won’t have to pay for repairs, maintenance, insurance, or registration.

If your car qualifies, Veteran Car Donations will accept it in either running or non-running condition. You won’t need to make repairs when you donate a vehicle with us.

Here are a few other reasons that donating your car to us is a great idea:

  • Get rid of an unwanted or unneeded vehicle for free – we’ll pay for the towing
  • No need to go through the hassles of selling or negotiating
  • No need to worry about privacy disclosure
  • More space for your garage, driveway, or yard
  • Feel good knowing that your donated vehicle can help improve the lives of veterans in need

How Does the Car Donation Process Go?

At Veteran Car Donations, you can expect a quick, easy donation process. It only takes three easy steps to donate a vehicle and get it picked up for free.

Step 1:

Fill out our online vehicle donation form or call 877-594-5822. One of our friendly donation specialists will help you through the process. We’ll ask for basic information about your vehicle, including the make and model, where it will be picked up, and the date and time that works best for you. We need this information to see if we can accept your vehicle.

Step 2

After we confirm your vehicle’s eligibility, we’ll schedule a free pickup with a professional towing company. They will pick up your vehicle at the date, time, and location you choose. When your automobile is picked up, you’ll receive a tow receipt. This shows that the vehicle is no longer your responsibility. You can then cancel your registration and auto insurance, and properly dispose of your license plates. The receipt can also help you claim a tax deduction.

Step 3:

We sell your vehicle at auction. Within 30 days of the sale, we will mail you a tax receipt that shows the final selling price of your donated vehicle. You can use this receipt when claiming a tax deduction on your federal tax return.

No matter where you live in the area – whether it’s Houston, Katy, Pearland, or beyond – we’re ready to help you get started. We accept many different types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, RVs, boats, motorcycles, vans, and more. So long as your vehicle meets our eligibility requirements, we can accept it.

Beyond Donating, How Else Can I Help My Community?

If you’re looking for ways to help veterans in need, reaching out to local government organizations is a great place to start. The Harris County Veterans Services Department can connect you with programs that support veterans through benefits assistance, housing resources, and other essential services. The Spring VA Vet Center also works with local groups to support veterans and often knows about volunteer opportunities in the community. You can also contact the Harris County Housing Authority to learn about ways to help through the HUD-VASH program, which provides housing support for veterans experiencing homelessness in Harris County.
